MRM: Where are you “calling” from?

Patriarchy: Staten Island bridge leaving New York in the van.

MRM: Well, let’s start from the beginning, how was Patriarchy formed?

Patriarchy: This Patriarchy band was formed after I decided to “stop making music” after David Bowie died… I met a talented musician from the band 3Teeth who wanted to do a collab. around 2017 I think? That turned into this music project where I just wanted to make an album really fast while he was on a lot of coke in his demon infested apartment….Ended up turning into something really good so I made a new band. I called it RAPE but my bandmate said that wouldn’t get us any representation so I tried to find a word just as important to civilization.

MRM: Could you tell us how was it making your new album “Manual for Dying”?

Patriarchy: Hard to explain an entire life process you know? In broad strokes I’d say it was a great way to keep my creativity nourished during the pregnancy, conception and tiny baby raising months!! Having a baby takes a lot of time and brain matter so it was important to me to keep working, playing shows, etc., as soon as it was physically possible. Half of these songs I was working on while pregnant (lethargically lol) and the rest after (while the baby was asleep – baby monitor in the garage studio!)

MRM: How was it working with famed producer Twin Shadow?

Patriarchy: So fun. George really breaths a sexy life into the demos. Every session was a productive party – sometimes turning into sleepovers while grandma watched the Bebe.

MRM: Do you all have any crazy stories from being out on the road?

Patriarchy: Yes, but I’m saving those for my goth sex and the city script.

MRM: How were the fans over on your European tour this summer?

Patriarchy: They all seemed pretty healthy and appropriately in awe.

MRM: How cool is it to be on tour with The Cult?

Patriarchy: The perfect temperature for an opening band like us – I mean we are the best opening band anyone can hope for…so they are happy about that, and I’m always happy when people I care about are happy. This is why we are doing it a second time with them…cuz they can’t get enough of us and we are like family now.

MRM: Have you all played in the Carolinas before?

Patriarchy: We have not! My grandpa lived on a golf course in North Carolina though – I played golf once.

MRM: What can fans expect when Patriarchy performs at the Ovens Auditorium on October 17 in Charlotte, NC?

Patriarchy: They can expect something unexpected.
